Quick & Hearty

Tonight's dinner apres laundry continues my summer fling with pasta. I finally took the plunge and bought a block of Parmesan cheese. No more eating pasta in sin with the bottled, powder crap from Kraft. Yes, more leftovers for lunch tomorrow!

Campanelle with Italian Sausage & Swiss Chard

The recipe was adapted from here. However I had campanelle instead of orecchiette, swiss chard instead of kale, used cipollini onions because that was all I had & used pasta water instead of white wine. Ok, so half my ingredients were not the same but I'm still trying to incorporate different types of pasta dishes into my diet. What I love about pasta dishes is that you can improv with that you have in your fridge for the day. The BF could eat my spicy garlic/veggie/shrimp linguine all the time but how fun would that be?

Rainy Day Braise

Tiring weekend with a lot of eating out. I realized I still suck in pool. Tonight's dinner with enough leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

Failure #1

This is by no means my first failure.. shocking I know! hehe but this is the first posted of I'm sure many more to come. The pork tasted ordinary despite all the fragrants I used - lemongrass, basil, garlic, shallots, scallions, lime juice and chili padi. We ended up adding more lime and *gasp* salt.. ugh and the oil! Oh well, the broccoli was great!

Meal for the 'Rents

Sunday I cooked dinner for my parents and invited them over. My mom has been to my place before but this was the first time for daddy. The dishes were not very photogenic but delish they were. There were so much leftover that we had the oxtail for dinner last night.

Lazy Saturday

I took home these gorgeous prairie roses from the Farmer's Market on Friday to accompany me during my weekend at home. I had no concrete plans and it was WAY too hot to go out or do anything. Nothing like a day home on the sofa in PJs, eating of course.

No photos of any of them built - too hungry.

The BF and I decided to take a brief walk to get out of the apartment even
for a few minutes. The landlord was outside watching this chicken graze in our neighbors front lawn.. err grass patch. I know he was tempted to take it home for dinner..

Eating Well

Thursdays this summer have quickly become one of my favorite days of the week - Veggie and Cheap Dinner Night! When I found out the CSA pick up day would be on Thursdays, I was a bit bummed that I wouldn't be spending those random (once a millennium as friends would say) Thursday night's out at Happy Hour, Bob's or some random thing at a random joint to then feel like utter shit Friday morning.

The routine goes like this - My best friend and I pick up our CSA veggies and then BF meets us or picks us up to have cheap dinner. Others tag along here and there. I've been trying to cut down on eating out but Thursday night dinners has been a nice relief from the expensive crap I'm forced to eat around the office for lunch. So last night we had Malaysian food for dinner at Flushing's Curry Leaf. We had so much food with leftovers for 5 people .. total cost $62!!!

Ok, now I feel bad because I won't be showing you photos from Curry Leaf but instead here is tonight's dinner. Tried to keep it light after the carbtastic week of noodles. Who am I kidding I used 5 tablespoons of butter!!

mashed potatoes - basil wasted)

Noodles a Different Way

Last night's dinner.. and the carb binge continues. Noodles are just so quick, easy and delish. No more late eating. It gives me nightmares I've noticed.

Pasta - A Summer Staple

This summer, I'm a slave to what is in my CSA box and the fact that anything that requires long cooking times or the oven is a 'no no'. Mmm more garlic pasta for last night's dinner.

Finally

Hi, my name is Lizz - I cook and I eat. After months (years!) of procrastination I've finally started this blog to document my kitchen creations and eating habits. You're not going to have much to read because honestly I stink with words, I'm lazy and usually pooped after cooking so I'll just entice you with photos of the goods. To make up for lost time here are some meals from the past couple weeks - thanks to my sweetie with the coolio camera. Welcome and enjoy.
